IDEA World Fitness Expo | Popular Fitness Programs
Last weeks IDEA World Fitness Expo went off with a bang. Not only did 4500 people attend the fitness convention, but for the first time, users from around the world were able to log on and watch a LIVE webcast. The convention had presenters from over 60 countries and over 430 available sessions teaching the newest most innovative fitness programs, and exercise routines as well as information on nutrition and metabolism. Here are a few hot fitness programs being taught this year:

Kranking with the Krankcycle:

From the creator of the spinning bike and spinning classes everywhere, Johnny G is bringing us the next revolution in fitness... The KrankCycle. Though the Krankcycle is still in the beta phase, Johnny G’s vision is becoming a reality. The upper-body hand cycle utilizes variable resistance mechanisms and is designed to focus solely on upper body cardiovascular and strength training. The Krankcycle is like speed cycling for the waist up and is a fast powered workout for your upper body and core.

Kettlebells:

16kg Kettlebell

Though the concept is not new (1704) we are seeing a resurgence of trainers focusing their classes on Kettlebell workouts. The Russian cast iron weights design features a “thick handle removed from a compact center of mass,” which allows for an unlimited amount of dynamic movements. At first glance, you probably wouldn’t understand why this is such an important piece of equipment. However, since the concepts introduction to America by the famous Pavel Tsatsouline, the biomechanics were further examined and fine-tuned to create the correct trajectory to replace a slew of other machines.

Stroller Strides:

Stroller Lunge example from Stroller Strides Classes

The Stroller Strides concept was created by Lisa Druxman after the birth of her first child. The expecting mother, with a degree from SDSU in Psychology with an emphasis in exercise adherence and weight control, saw the need for “mom fitness classes” just after the birth and began creating a plan. The regimen would consist of her baby stroller, resistance bands, and wanting dedication.

After Lisa won last years “IDEA program director of the year award”, the concept started taking hold, and is now taking the nation by storm. Even this year, her booth had a plethora of interested fanatics around. Lisa also hosted a session during the conference about franchising and business opportunities. You can find more information available on her website about postnatal fitness and franchising

Gyrotonic:

The Gyrotnic Cobra dance machine

Again, The concept is nothing new, but this years convention had several sessions focusing on Gyrokinesis with the Gyrotonic expansion system. Gyrokinesis also called “yoga for dancers” was created by Juliu Horvath in the 1970s when he suffered a dancing injury. He later went on to create the Gyrotonic machine to add to his new methodology. The machine combines exercises from Swimming, Yoga, and Tai Chi to form a total body workout. With over 200 workouts possible on the Gyrotonic, this machine will stretch, strengthen, tone and provide cardiovascular exercises for everyone. Click here to find out more about the Gyrotonic
