Nike+ Human Race | The First Global 10k

On august 31, 2008 Nike will host the first-ever global 10k. Nike+ users will be able to compete with runners worldwide in the first of its kind 10k run. As we all know, the Nike+ tracks users heart rate, distance, cadence and speed. But, how can over 1 Million people compete at the same time from thousands of teams and several different locations across the world?

Technology Today allows users of the Nike+ sport kit to sync their stats automatically with Nikeplus.com through Itunes. Users simply plug in their Ipod, Sync with Itunes and Nike+ does the rest. After syncing, stats are readily available on the Nike+ website almost instantaneously for users to view and track their goal progress and compare with friends.

Nike is making it easy for everyone, (yes even those of you who are not runners) to register with the Nike+ system and join in on this first of its kind fitness event. Not only will users be able to participate with the minimum registration fee of $35, but, Nike will assist in helping everyone train for the event with Nike+Coach as seen below. So whether your someone who has never run to the seasoned 50 mile/week veteran, Nike will be providing good tips to prep for the event. After you sign up, just pick the closest city to your location and check Nike+ Coach for the likely slew of events happening in your area.

The main benefactors of this race are The Lance Armstrong Foundation, The UN Refugee Agency, and the World Wildlife Foundation. For each racer, Nike will donate $5 to one of 3 charities, and you're the deciding factor as to whom the funds are allocated to. Nike will be donating up to $3 Million USD to these 3 charities. Those registering also have the ability to donate additional funds (100% disbursement) to one of the 3 charities.

When you participate with the assistance of Nike+, the website can also help you track your performance and tell you if you have trained enough for the event judged upon your stats.
